ANZ: Kicking Down Barriers
Business Challenge
ANZ sponsors wheelchair tennis champion Dylan Alcott. With more Grand Slam wins than Andre Agassi, Dylan was one of the greatest tennis players in the world. He just wasn't being treated like one.
Strategic Unlock
Elite able-bodied athletes get player-exclusive gear from Nike. Dylan never had. The most powerful thing ANZ could do wasn't run a campaign about inclusion. It was to actually deliver it, in the most visible moment of Dylan's year.
Organising Idea
ANZ partnered with Nike to create the first ever player-exclusive Nike sneaker for a wheelchair athlete. The shoes, custom-designed with Dylan's own logo, were worn throughout the 2019 Australian Open. Dylan won the tournament, then thanked ANZ and Nike in his acceptance speech, broadcast live to over 100 countries.
Key Results
Dylan dedicated his win to the campaign on a global stage. The story ran across every major Australian commercial network, plus international press. Dylan later auctioned the shoes, with all proceeds going to the Dylan Alcott Foundation. D&AD Pencil winner in both Media and PR.
